Wishing to get out of High School

February 17, 2007

About three years ago, I was a 16 year old Senior High School student who was excited to step out of high school and be a college girl.

During that year, I was a bit pressured thinking what course should I take and what school too. I have my goals and ambitions. I did prepare by reviewing for my college entrance tests in different universities with my friends and due to some circumstances, I ended up studying here in Dagupan.

After my high school graduation, I was hoping to push through an IT course in SLU Baguio. I took the exams and passed. My Dad used to work there and he was worried that I can't handle the way of living (water, the weather etc.) so they decided that I'll study here in Dagupan.

I was disapponted at first because for heaven's sake, I've been studying in the same campus since kindergarden! I wanted to explore other places and test if i can survive living "on my own".

I think that is the misconception of senior hs students who are about to graduate especially those who are from the province (like me). They wanted to test their independence and try living away from home without the strict parents and the curfew times. We wanted to take control of our lives so we are eager to put our butts out of our province and go to Manila.

Majority of my batchmates in FQD studied in Manila and Baguio. Some of them are doing good with their Academic PErformance and Extra-Curricular Activities (like Maire!) that they even receive recognition from different organizations. Some of them are concentrating on their studies and at the same time enjoying their independence. The rest? Well I heard that some fo my batchmates are busy with their "new family" and with different vices.

I though I will never succeed or enjoy my college here in Dagupan. Almost all of my close HS friends went to Manila! But know what? I was wrong. I became a member of the LNU Dance Troupe  when I was in first year. I am lucky to learn basic steps in modern, ballroom and jazz. We did perform in different school events and even attended a workshop by globe. On my sophomore year, I won as the Representative of CSIT at the Engineering and Computer Science Student Association (ECSSA) and got a part-time job as an encoder at the LNU-Schoolbliz.

Now on my Junior year, I became the Vice Governor of ECSSA and Chairman of Multimedia Club (a club who hasn't done a thing *sigh*). I participated in school activities and had fun. Sad to say that I had a to give up one thing late last year. I guess life is like that: You'll never know when the good moments ends.

By next year, I'll be saying goodbye in my Alma Mater. This place had been my home and my playground full of memories and all that :)
