Yesterday at Showbiz Central, GMA-7 finally revealed who will be playing the Pinay Version of Marimar and yes, MARIAN RIVERA is the Newest Marimar! (I’m quite sure that after the first week of airing, people will start calling her as "Marimar Rivera" instead of Marian Rivera LOL. Included in the cast are Dingdong Dantes as Sergio, Manilyn Reynes as Corazon and a lot more. Click here for the audition video.
But it seems like there’s one problem:
Who will be playing the wicked madrasta named Angelica?
It was reported at the Philippine Entertainment Portal site that the role is being offered to Katrina Halili. To be honest, when I heard late last year that GMA-7 bought the rights to do the filipino version of the Thalia show, Majority (including me) pictured Katrina to be playing Marimar. I do really think that Katrina is a versatile actress and her masa appeal is being proven already from her winning as Philippines’ Finest at the 2006 FHM 100 Sexiest Women and she was never out of the telebabad run (First as Black Darna, then as Juno at Majika, as Princess Helena/Ruana in Atlantika and now as Ashley Kalibre at the top-rating show Lupin. I don’t think that casting her as the Main Kontrabida to Marian is a good idea. Katrina is too young for that and yes., SHE DESERVES MORE THAN THAT.
I made my own list of my top choices for the ANGELICA role in Marimar. Please share your own thoughts as well.
Gretchen Barretto - Elegant, Sophisticated, Outspoken, Beautiful- these are the ingredients of becoming a perfect kontrabida to a mexican-inspired series. I’ve seen La Greta in Matakot ka sa Karma and my, that movie was a bad comeback film for her! If she really wants to make a good comeback like what Sheryl Cruz did last year thru Bakekang, she should play the Role of Angelica and prove to everyone that she’s more than just a pretty face.. and a scandalous public figure.
Assunta de Rossi- Assunta has proven her worth as an actress even if she joined the boldwagon in 2001. She starred in different drama shows of GMA-7 but her downfall began when she tied the knot with Congressman Jules Ledesma and moved to the rival station. She claims in her interview last year that ABS-CBN ruined her career thus making her a "frozen delight". Now that she’s finally free from the kapamilya network, I hope she does a good comeback as Angelica in Marimar to the station where she truly belongs.
Jean Garcia- She was actually the first actress I had in mind when I heard that there will be a Marimar remake. She was loved to be hated by the viewers as Madam Claudia in Pangako Sayo and now, she’s playing another kontrabida role in Impostora and she’s really good! The only conflict here is that she’s a bit old for the role and in case, the management needs to pull her out in the Sunshine-Iza starrer soap opera.
Sheryl Cruz - I am impressed with her performance as Valeria in the TV Show Bakekang. The audience were used to seeing her playing pa-tweetums with her ka-loveteam Romnick and they never thought that she can do that Valeria role with flying colors. She can do well as a kontrabida, but i dunno, I Love Valeria hehehe

MANILYN REYNES!!! kasi madaming na nagcocoment sa role nya na yan!!! please lang ha!!! and I think manilyn reynes handle that role effectively MAGALING C ATE MANE!!! pg di maitim c corazon yuk ang jologs ng serye na yan!!! i remember 2 charcter lang ang famous dyan si pulgoso and CORAZON!!! please lang ha!!!

Ah so it’s official na pala. I vote for Jean Garcia to play Angelica. She can do justice to the role effortlessly.
