I was fortunate enough to be invited in the exclusive special preview of the new independent film “Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa” last April 12, 2008 at Teatrino Greenhills. I would like to thank Ida Tiongson, one of the producers of the movie for inviting me.
I am a big fan of Pinoy Independent films and I was able to watch some of them in Robinson’s IndieSine (Condo, Roxxxane and Selda). I was able to watch some of them in vcds and in other movie houses. It was my first time to attend in a special screening night of a movie that’s why I was pretty excited plus the chance to meet the important people behind the movie and of course, the director and the stars.
Playing the lead roles in the movie are Marcus Madrigal and Josh Deocareza. The film is written and directed by the controversial Will Fredo. Oh, I forgot to mention that the MTRCB gave the movie poster an “X” rating because of.. errrm… the butterfly? Haha go check the original poster out to find out.
So what is the movie all about? It is about Agustin Vergeire (Marcus Madrigal), a lustful sepak takraw who was badly injured in one of his tournament games that caused the lower part of his body paralyzed. He was taken good care of by his caregiver named Carlito Mariposa (Josh Deocareza). The two of them eventually had an unlikely attraction with each other. Why unlikely? Agustin had a number of intimate scenes with his obsessed girlfriend (played by Lily Chu). On the other hand, Carlito is set to get married with her longtime girlfriend (played by CJ Mercado).
I can say that the major focus of the film is not primarily on the “gay” factor, but it is more on the psychological effects of some unexpected events in an individual’s dark past. The opening part of the film shows some of the violence and mystery regarding Carlito’s past. It was said in the screen preview that there is an unlikely twist in the end of the story. Don’t ask me about it because I still have to watch it preferably with my lola, who has been my constant companion in watching indie films at Robinson’s Galleria IndieSine. Below is the official trailer of the movie:
I got the chance to have a little chitchat with Josh Deocareza, Marcus Madrigal and Will Fredo after the special screen preview and I will write more about it in my upcoming entries.
And hey, did you know that they also released an official soundtrack for the movie? Brave New Music: Songs from the Original Motion Picture Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa is now available on your favorite record bars nationwide! It contains 13 tracks by 10 of out upcoming bands and artists like VerseS, Liquid Jane, Sunflower Day Camp to name a few. My top three favorite songs are Home, Langit na and Di Kita Iiwan. Below is themusic video of ‘Di Kita Iiwan by Ferdz Din featuring some of the touching scenes from the movie:
