When I saw the sneak preview of the indie film Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa, I suspected that the lead actor who’s playing the role of Carlito Mariposa the caregiver is gay in real life.
But I was wrong.
When I saw Josh Deocareza after the sneak peak, I was stunned and amused. He dressed up like a typical guy enjoying the night. He had a longer hair compared to that of Carlito. He moved and walked like a guy with no sexuality issues unlike Carlito who is malamya.
I had a chance to have a little chat with him. For me, Josh Deocareza is one man that aspiring actors should look up to as a role model.
The 24 year old model/stage actor is a familiar face to most of us because he has done commercials in the past for KFC, Mc Donald’s Globe and more. Not only that, he also directed, written and hosted events in the past. He’s also been constantly participating in short films and independent films like Rome and Juliet, Chosuey and Baliw, where he played the lead role and he also had numerous TV appearances.
Oh wait, Did you know that this model/stage-movie-tv actor/writer/director/host is a marketing graduate of Thames International Business School? I bet you didn’t know that.
In Mariposa, Josh Deocareza plays the role of Carlito, a caregiver who is set to get married with his longtime girlfriend, but he has some personal issues that he has to face including his mysterious past and his true sexual preference. Does he know anything about colon cleanser? Just wanna ask a silly question now haha
I asked Josh if he was a bit hesitant when the role was offered to him. He bravely admitted that he had some inhibitions upon doing some scenes, but thanks to Direk Will for relaying the whole picture of how those scenes would play an integral part in the feel in the movie. He is also not afraid of being typecast in such roles as long as that character is worth playing.
I am really impressed with his achievements in such a young age. I asked him what he plans to do next. He wishes to submit a screenplay at the Cinemalaya and he’s looking forward to working with Will Fredo and the rest of the Hubo Crew.

“Bata pa lang ako napapanood na kita sa TV.” I gladly informed Marcus Madrigal during the sneak preview of the indie film “Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa”.
Marcus Madrigal is not a newbie in the entertainment scene. He was launched as a member of the Star Circle Batch 6 in 1996 and eventually had numerous tv guestings in ABS-CBN. He later on joined in the Regal Films’ rooster of talents and groomed him to be one of its leading men and bravely joined the sexy bandwagon and was casted in sexy yet award-winning films such as Live Show and Pila Balde, where he garnered two best actor nominations.
So whatever happened to him after doing these films? No, he didn’t take any legal steroids like some of his contemporaries. He told me that he joined in a theater group and learned to love it. He had a tv comeback more than a year ago through the tv show Bakekang as Sheryl Cruz’ lover. He later on appeared in top rating kapuso shows such as Pati Ba Pintig ng Puso?, Pasan ko ang Daigdig and Kamandag.
In the movie, he played the role of a sepak takraw player who was badly injured in a championship game. During his recuperation period, he developed a special friendship with his caregiver (played by Josh Deocareza) and later on developed an unlikely physical attraction. His character is confused and unable to control his male urges since he is a highly sexual person before the accident took place.
Marcus Madrigal accepted the movie because of it’s story and the character he is about to portray is something that is new to him-something he had never done before. “Nasa characters yung mystery nito. You have to watch it to see how it will unfold”.
I asked Marcus what he can say about the Hubo Team. “Magaling sila at napaka-creative nila. Gusto ko ngang makasali sa upcoming projects nila especially yung pinakita sa teaser kanina na intended for 2010.”
Sa Pagdapo ng Mariposa is his first independent film to date. We are hoping that we will see more of him both in tv and films. We need good actors like him who is passionate in his chosen field.
