High School and College Life

Have you ever experienced the so-called "Peer Pressure" back in high school? Did you exert too much effort to be one of the popular ones in school?

I used to be afraid to be alone when I was in high school. I wanted to be "in". It seems that all of my female classmates are having a great time with their boyfriends. I, on the other hand, would rather go to my grandfather’s office to update the celebrity websites i’ve created or simply chat with some internet addicts like me.

I also wanted to be included in a barkada. We have some in our batch. I tried to fit in with them but I did not succeed. The first group composed of the most beautiful, the sexiest and most admired in out batch. They invited me in some of their activities, but I noticed that I was not really happy spending too much money for the sake of eating in a fancy place.

Then I went into another group. Majority of the members were my dear friends, but they did something that really broke my heart. I forgave them already but I will never forget. Btw, one of them is one of my bestest friends ever so ok. fine.

When I graduated from high school, I consider Ruby, Maire and Kenjo as my true friends. They came from different groups, but i am lucky because up to this day, they’re still there for me when i need some help.

Btw, have you heard of ademco? If not, please do check the link out.

Anyway, when I stepped in college, it was the time wherein I was able to explore into a lot of things. When I was a freshman, I became an active member of our Performing Arts Dance Troupe. I used to dance back in high school, but it was the first time that I learned how to appreciate jazz music and dance. It was the time wherein I learned how to be conscious with your looks. I learned how to dress up well (no more super luwang t-shirts and maluwang na pants), fix my hair and yes, smile.

When I stepped in sophomore year, I had my first part-time job as an encoder. I was able to mingle with some of the working computer science students for three months. It was so good until it lasted. Something actually happened why I was terminated from the job and I don’t want to elaborate further (ok, if you really wanna know why, just pm me on my ym LOL). It was the first time that I was invited to join in Leadership Training programs,

Third year is the best for me. I maintained high grades and I became an active student leader. I met a lot of wonderful people from different organizations. I did a lot of stuff that I don’t usually do like buying some stuff in the market, cooking isaw, chopping some pork for barbeque, sleeping in a friend’s house overnight and illegally going on the top of one of the buildings here in school. It was a very memorable moment for me - the weather, the company and everything. Who would have thought that something unexplainable will happen next?

I only spent one semester during my senior year. It was the time wherein I learned more about my batchmates. We had the chance to bond during the Y4IT in Manila and when we went to SM Mall of Asia. I was able to guide some of the new leaders in our department. I became the "dear ate" of the younger ones and I really appreciate it whenever they come up to me to ask for advice.

Now that I am fully out of college, I can say that I have fulfilled my dream when I was a student. I wanted to show my talents and serve the students. Who would have thought that I will graduate with a leadership award in college? (Ok fine, I also received a loyalty award lol). In high school, I wasn’t given the chance to even run for the office. Thank God college was pretty nice to me.

Someone asked me one time, "Which one do you prefer? Your High school or college life?" I answered the later and they were wondering why. "In college, I never felt the need to be "in". I was able to do things on my own and people appreciated me as Micaela Fransesca T. Rodriguez, not as someone who is sipsip to get some good grades".

Lessons learned :)

How about you? Which do you prefer: High school or college? Why? Tell me tell me! :)
