Regine Velasquez is the Pinay Kim Sam Soon

June 7, 2008

"My Name is Kim Sam Soon" is one of my most loved koreanovela. It is simply a story of an obese girl looking for love and she bakes cakes.

I am quite lazy to blog right now, but I want to share this trailer to you guys. This is the first teaser shown in GMA-7 for the Philippine version of My Name is Kim Sam Soon with songbird Regine Velasquez playing the title role.

To be honest, I was first rooting for Sunshine Dizon for the challenging role, but after reminiscing some of Regine Velasquez’ rom-com movies, I finally agreed that she deserves to play as KSS.

So who will be Regine’s leading man? It’s no other than Mark Anthony Fernandez. He plays the role of Cyrus, a rich businessman who is quite arrogant. I am a fan of Mark Anthony when I was a kid (Kami ang.. GWAPINGZ! LOL) but then he became inactive in showbiz for a few years because he was sent in and out of the rehabilitation center. He was recognized last year when he played the role of Sunshine Dizon’s martyr husband named Nicolas in Impostora and later on as Lucero, the main villain in Kamandag. I am happy that the guy got the part.

Playing the main antagonist is Nadine Samonte as Hannah. We last saw her in the afternoon drama "Maging Akin Ka Lamang" opposite Polo Ravales. The one thing I am really excited about is the actor playing the Dr. Henry role. Who got the part? No other than Dr. Hayden Kho Jr.! I know that he’s preparing for the role and I’m quite sure he will do well in the show.

Also included in the cast are John Lapus, Pauleen Luna, Stef Prescott, Jenica Garcia, Mart Escudero, Carmi Martin, Eugene Domingo and a lot more!

Inasmuch as I enjoyed watching Kim Sam Soon, I hate this trend of redoing foreign stuff. There are a lot of creative thinkers and writers locally just begging for a chance, and they go abroad to buy somebody else’s stuff.

Talk about xenophilia. It’s a travesty.

@philos - i agree with you. filipinos have a lot of stories in mind that they want to share, but only a few are given the opportunity to do that. i think the reason why some of the writers of abs and gma collaborate to work on an indie film.

but hey, i’m excited about this show haha

The Philippine remake is insulting to the viewers’ intellect.

Corny. Poorly executed. Shamefully unrealistic.
